EUSA Games: All but quiet Sunday

Traditionally quiet weekend was all but that this Sunday here in Cordoba during the 1st European Universities Games, with special attention given to the finals in men’s and women’s Futsal, being played at the Vista Alegre Sports Hall in the centre of Cordoba. The medals and awards were presented by the President of the Organising Committee Mr Manuel Torres, EUSA Executive Committee Member Mr Fernando Parente, EUSA Futsal Technical Delegate Mr Tom Aftanski and representatives of sponsors and partners.


In women’s competitions, the bronze medal was won by the University of Rouen (FRA), while in the finals we witnessed an intense match between the teams of University of Coimbra (POR) and Moscow State Technical University MAMI (RUS). The team from Moscow won by 1 goal in the end, winning the title of the champions.

In men’s competition, the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (GEO) won the bronze medals, and in the finals the very exciting and even match between the University of Minho (POR) and Siberian Federal University (RUS) finally brought the deserved victory to the Russian team, making them the 1st EUSA Champions in men’s Futsal.

Apart from the final Futsal matches, the remaining sports at the EUSA Games – Basketball, Rugby’s and Table tennis have been going strong, and will finish tomorrow with the finals, followed by the closing ceremony and passing the flag to the next organisers of the 2nd European Universities Games – Rotterdam 2014.

In the evening, representatives of the European University Sports Association and the Organising Committee took the time to thank the international volunteers participating in the Games, recognising their involvement and dedication towards offering the best experience to the participants of the event.
