EUSA Forum 2016

Before the start of the General Assembly, EUSA Forum was organised in the Centennial Hall in Wroclaw in the morning of Friday, April 8, focusing on University Sport in Europe.

EUSA Forum is a new event preceding the EUSA General Assemblies, maintaining the open annual educational event in the European University Sports Association as the EUSA Conference is now held as a 2-day event every second year, in between the General Assemblies.

After the welcome speeches by the EUSA President Mr Adam Roczek and Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, Mr Marian Dymalski gave a short overview of the history and activities of the University Sports Association of Poland (AZS).

The importance of the upcoming European Universities Games Zagreb-Rijeka 2016 was reinforced by the attendance and speech of Mrs Andrea Bekic, Croatian Ambassador in Poland. On behalf of the Organising Committee Mr Haris Pavletic highlighted the main key facts and expected legacy, inviting university sports teams and individuals from European universities to take part. Student athletes will be able to compete in 21 sports and, for the first time in EUSA history, also 2 para-sports. Registration is still possible in some sports, so please hurry and register before April 15. During the Games also a special Rectors’ Conference will be organised and the Rectors of European Higher education institutes and universities are warmly invited to attend.

The 4th European Universities Games will be held in Coimbra in 2018 and preparations are underway, also plans and realisation of the event's legacy. FADU President Mr Daniel Monteiro and Organising Committee’s Secretary General Mr Mario Santos shared the current status, plains and aims of the event and its legacy.

The last part of the Forum was devoted to the Bidding Cities for the European Universities Games 2020. According to the draw which was held the day prior at the EUSA Executive Committee, the City of Belgrade, Serbia went first. Representatives of the Bidding Committee, lead by Mr Uros Zekovic, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports and Mr Sinisa Jasnic, President  of the University Sports Federation of Serbia shared their vision of the event.

The Finnish City of Tampere was the second Bidding City for the European Universities Games 2020 and their delegation was lead by Anna-Kaisa Heinamaki, Deputy Mayor of the City of Tampere, Mr Bennie Wardi, the President of the Finnish Student Sports Federation. Together with other members of the team they presented the philosophy of their bid.

The attribution of the 5th European Universities Games will be announced during the EUSA General Assembly on Saturday as the concluding act.

The Forum and later on the General Assembly were accompanied by the EUSA exhibition on university sport, presentation of AZS, presentation stands of the European Universities Games Zagreb-Rijeka 2016, EUG2020 bidding cities Belgrade and Tampere, and presenting also The World Games 2017 which will be hosted in Wroclaw next summer.

A special exhibition "Croatia from above" was also displayed, inviting participants to Croatia and the European Universities Games 2016 this summer.
