EUSA Executive Committee meets in Wroclaw

The members of the Executive Committee of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) met in Wroclaw on April 7 and 8, 2016. This was the last meeting in their term 2012-2016, and it directly preceded the EUSA General Assembly, which is taking place in the same city on April 8 and 9.

Before the start of the meeting, the members and guests had the opportunity to visit the local sights. After the welcome by the EUSA President Mr Adam Roczek, several reports followed, reflecting on the past events and preparation for the events and activities in the near future. The members also discussed last preparations for the EUSA General Assembly, which this year encompasses also the EUSA Forum on Friday morning and the EUSA Gala on Saturday evening.

Local sights

EUSA sports events, reflecting on the successful past edition of the European Universities Championships and the upcoming European Universities Games, starting with Zagreb-Rijeka in July 2016 and Coimbra two years later. The members also discussed the European Universities Championships 2017, which will bring even better services to the European student athletes and events organisers.

Cooperation with the international organisations and institutions was another important topic on the agenda. The EUSA Executive Committee was first received some updates from the International University Sports Federation (FISU), one of the most important partner of EUSA. FISU is also supporting the organisation of the Executive Committee and EUSA General Assembly in Wroclaw.

Presentation by European Chess Union representative

Members of the EUSA Executive Committee were also joined by Dr. Natalia Pochinok, representing EUSA partner organisation the European Chess Union (ECU). Mrs Pochinok is also the Rector of Russian State Social University and the President of National Student Chess League in Russia, and she presented new cooperation possibilities in the field of university chess.

Presentations

Following the EUSA attendance and presentation at the Congress of the European Sports Press Association (AIPS Europe) last year and discussions between EUSA and AIPS Europe, Mr Charles Camenzuli AIPS Europe Secretary General attended the EUSA Executive Committee meeting as well, presenting the organisation and highlighting the synergies for cooperation. AIPS Europe and EUSA are to sign the Memorandum of Understanding at the upcoming EUSA General Assembly.

Representatives of the Bidding Committees of the European Universities Games – Belgrade, Serbia and Tampere, Finland attended the meeting for a draw, deciding the order of the presentation during the Assembly on Friday. Presidents of both national university sports bodies attended the draw – Mr Bennie Wardi from the Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL) and Mr Sinisa Jasnic from the University Sport Federation of Serbia (USSS). In the sports spirit and with a toss of the coin, the order was set – Tampere will have their presentation following the one from Belgrade.

This was also the opportunity to thank the members of the Executive Committee and the Auditors, as well as other members and volunteers who contributed to the success of the Executive Committee and EUSA as the organisation in the current term.

The EUSA events in Wroclaw continue on Friday with the Forum, followed by the 2-day General Assembly and will conclude on Saturday evening with the special Gala.
