EUSA Executive Committee meets in Ljubljana
European University Sports Association (EUSA) held the second regular Executive Committee meeting of the year in Ljubljana, Slovenia on November 29 and 30, 2019.
Apart of the members of the Executive Committee and EUSA staff, also representatives of the European Universities Games Belgrade 2020 were invited to the meeting.
The meeting started with the welcome address of EUSA President Mr Adam Roczek and EUSA Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, followed by a general report of activities from the last meeting.
The very successful season of the 2019 European Universities Championships was presented next, with the evaluation of each event, presentation of the statistics, discussing also disciplinary matters, as well as awards. A presentation of FISU World University Leagues and Cups was made, reporting on the successful 3x3 event in Xiamen, and ongoing Football event in Jiniang. Other EUSA endorsed events, held under the patronage of the organisation, were also discussed.
FISU supported projects and projects supported by the European Union were presented as well. EUSA and its Institute are very active also in the fields where social responsibility and other values are addressed in and through sport, namely the topics of dual career, social inclusion and equal opportunities, skills development, anti-doping, good governance, volunteering – supported by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union, as well as activities and projects supported by European Solidarity Corps and Mobility in Sport as preparatory actions.
On the topic of conferences and meetings, the past EUSA Conference, Extraordinary General Assembly, Awards Ceremony and Gala 2019 were discussed, evaluated as very successful and thanks were again expressed to FADU, University of Aveiro and the city for hosting the main EUSA anniversary events. Executive Committee members also got acquainted with the planned upcoming meetings, as well as the next year’s General Assembly which will be held in October in Yerevan, Armenia.
Presentation on international cooperation covered updates from EUSA member associations, FISU and other continental federations, as well as partner and other organisations. Chairs and secretaries of the EUSA Commissions presented their activity reports and plans: Student, Technical, Equal Opportunities, Education, Media and Communications, Finance and Marketing.
In future sports events, Executive Committee discussed the European Universities Championships for 2021 and attributed Handball to Podgorica, Montenegro – adding it to the list of previously attributed events. General progress report of the European Universities Games 2022 and 2024 was also discussed, while the upcoming European Universities Games Belgrade 2020 were discussed in more details.
Delegation from Belgrade, composed of Director Mr Predrag Juskovic, Deputy Director Ms Anita Dobre, Project Manager Mr Dragan Atanasov and Head of Sport Department Ms Ana Todoric, presented in details the activities and plans for the upcoming period.
After the EUSA Supervision Commission visit and operational meetings in the past month, special emphasis was focused on the feedback from these meetings. Great satisfaction was expressed in the preparation progress, looking forward to the opening of registration on December 1, 2019.
