EUSA Executive Committee meeting in Bucharest

Members of the Executive Committee of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) and invited guests met for the first EUSA EC meeting in 2016 in Bucharest, the capital or Romania, on January 22 and 23, 2016.

The meeting was hosted by EUSA member Romanian Schools and Universities Sports Federation (FFSU), governing body for university sport in Romania. On behalf of the Romanian School and University Sports Federation, EUSA guests were welcomed by its Deputy Director Mr Constantin Caliman and the coordinator of the meeting Mr Liviu Matac, EUSA Auditor from Romania, with the FFSU team Ms Claudia Ilie and Mr Marius Ulareanu, as well as partner organisation representatives Mr Constantin Marcel and Mr Victor Mihailescu.

At the beginning of the meeting also the Vice-Rector of the Bucharest University of Economic Studies Mr Robert Aurelian Sova welcomed the EUSA members, recognising the importance of European University Sport and expressed interest in EUSA sports events.

The 2-day meeting started with the address of EUSA President Mr Adam Roczek thanking the hosts for their hospitality and devotion, welcoming EUSA Executive Committee members and invited guests, among them also the Vice-President of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) Mr Marian Dymalski and EUSA Honorary President Mr Alberto Gualtieri.

After Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik and Treasurer Mr Olaf Tabor presented the overall activity and financial report, chairs and secretaries of the EUSA commissions presented their reports, including the Student, Media and Communications, Finances and Marketing, Medical, Technical, Equal Opportunities, Rules and Regulations Commission.

Sports and sport related matters were discussed next, focusing on the upcoming European Universities Games, European Universities Championships and EUSA endorsed events. Special attention was given on the 2016 EUSA Games, for which a lot of interest has been shown and by the deadline February 15 only a few open places are left in the team sports.

Reporting and discussion

FISU and EU-supported projects were presented, as well as other EUSA projects. EUSA is currently involved in two larger awareness-raising projects, dealing with gender equality in coaching and combatting sexual violence, as well as actively working on inclusion of students with disabilities and carrying out other projects and activities.

Thanking the hosts

International cooperation with FISU, EUSA members and partner and other organisation was also on the agenda of the EC meeting, which concluded with the topic of conferences and meetings. Special focus was given to the upcoming EUSA electoral General Assembly which will be held in Wroclaw on April 8 and 9, 2016.

The formal part of the meeting concluded by a lunch in the National Military Circle, attended by Mrs Claudia Georgescu, former Secretary General of FSSU, presently Secretary General of the Minister of Youth and Sport.

The participants also had a chance to visit the main sights in Bucharest and enjoy Romanian cuisine and culture.
