EUSA evaluation visit to Wroclaw

EUSA Evaluation Committee composed by Mr Alberto Gualtieri, EUSA President, Mr Kemal Tamer, Executive Committee Member and Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, Secretary General paid an evaluation visit between October 10 and 12 to Wroclaw, Poland, a candidate city for organisation of the 2014 European Universities Games.

On the first day, the EUSA representatives met with the representatives of the Bidding Committee and the University Sports Federation of Poland Mr. Marian Dymalski, Mr Pjotr Marszal and Mr Martin Dymalski who presented them the project of organisation of the 2014 EUG in details.

"AZS Poland is one of the most active EUSA Member Federations. By organising 15 European Universities Championships in the past we have proved our capabilities to organise great events for EUSA and we will do the same in 2014, if we get the opportunity to host the European Universities Games in Wroclaw" were the words with which Mr Dymalski concluded the presentation of the bid.

The EUSA delegation visited after some of the sports and accommodation facilities that are foreseen for the games.

During the first day, the EUSA representatives also met on a separate meetings with the representative of the Sports Department of the Lower Silesian Region, Mr Dominik Klosowski, the Chancellor of the Wroclaw University of Economics, prof. dr.  Edward Bratek and the Mayor of the neighbouring City of Trzebnica Mr Marek Dlugozima, who all gave full support to the candidature of Wroclaw.

On the second day, the evaluation continued with a visit to the Centennial Hall, a UNESCO World Heritage site that is foreseen for the Opening Ceremony of the 2014 Games, as well of some other nearby sports venues.

The EUSA delegation visited also the City Hall, where they were welcomed by the Mayor of Wroclaw Mr Rafal Dutkiewicz. The Mayor gave his full support for organisation of the event: "Hosting the European Universities Games would be a wonderful promotional event for the Lower Silesian capital, for the whole region and our country; and that is why I fully support the organisation of this event. "

After that, the meeting with press was organised in the City Hall, where members of the press were able to talk to EUSA representatives and bidding committee members.

In the afternoon, the delegation visited the Academy of Physical Education of Wroclaw, where they were welcomed by the Rector prof. dr. Juliusz Migasiewicz.

The visit continued with inspection of some other university sports facilities. Altogether, the Wroclaw Bidding Committee foresees to use for organisation of the games 20 multifunctional venues for indoor and 9 multifunctional venues for outdoor sports.

In the evening, the Evaluation Committee had an opportunity to see the basketball match of the national league, played in Orbita Hall, foreseen as the venue of the closing ceremony of the EUG 2014.

Today, the EUSA delegation travels to Rotterdam, the second candidate city for the organisation of the 2014 European Universities Games.
