EUSA Evaluation Visit to Lodz
On February 14-15, EUSA representatives Mr Adam Roczek, President, Mr Haris Pavletic, Vice-President and Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, Secretary General visited the City of Lodz, candidate for organisation of 2022-2024 European Universities Games. Lodz is the third biggest city in Poland with population of around 700.000 people.
The evaluation visit started in Warsaw, where EUSA delegation was welcomed by Mr Piotr Dardzinski, Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and continued at the Polish Olympic Committee, where EUSA representatives were welcomed by Mr Marian Dymalski, AZS Poland Vice-President and Polish Olympic Committee Board Member.
EUSA representatives visited the Lodz University of Technology &where they were met at the Rectorate by the Rector Mr Slawomir Wiak, the Chancellor Mr Jacek Szer. The University is together with AZS Lodz the initiator of the candidature and the Rector stressed the importance and legacy of hosting of the Games for universities and student population in Lodz. TUL was created in 1945 and has developed into one of the biggest technical universities in Poland. More than 17.000 students are currently enrolled at the University.
The next morning, the visit continued with the meetings with Mr Witold Stepien, Marshal of the Lodz Region and Mrs Hanna Zdanowska, the Mayor of Lodz; who both strongly supported the bid.
Afterwards, a Press Conference was organized in the Lodz City Hall, where the details of the Lodz candidature were presented to the media.
A day before, the Technical Evaluation of the sport and accommodation facilities in Lodz was conducted by EUSA Sport Manager Mr Besim Aliti and Assistant Mr Davor Travnikar.
The decision on the organizer of the European Universities Games 2022-2024 will be made during EUSA General Assembly on April 13, 2018 in Madrid (ESP). The second candidate is Debrecen - Miskolc (HUN).
