EUSA-EUG2020 Coronavirus update
Amid the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak and spread across both Europe and the world, EUSA authorities have been in constant communication and discussion regarding the impact on future events and most importantly, the upcoming European Universities Games 2020 in Belgrade, Serbia.
The current situation was unexpected and is unprecedented, yet the safety and wellbeing of all EUG2020 participants, EUSA members, partners, federations, athletes, officials, volunteers, supporters, staff and the public at large remains our primary concern.
We are closely monitoring the situation, and we are in daily contact with the EUG2020 organisers regarding the latest developments as we adhere to the recommendations and instructions of WHO, ECDC and national authorities in Serbia.
We understand that the European Universities Games is an eagerly-anticipated competition which for some is the highlight of their university sports career, while for the organisers and EUSA it is an event to which we remain fully committed, which has involved years of preparation up to this point.
With the Games four months away, preparations are still ongoing. All partners remain fully committed and as it stands, the event is still planned to be held this summer. EUSA and the Organising Committee are intensively exploring all options, and we will continue to monitor the situation closely, keeping you informed as soon as relevant information becomes available.
We understand that the situation is challenging for all our members, partners and participants, so we thank you for your patience and understanding. In the meantime, we encourage you to continue preparing for the Games as best as possible.
Due to the current situation and obstacles some of the participants are facing, the registration deadline for the competition has been extended to April 15.
Furthermore, the NUSA coordination meeting, initially scheduled for May 8-9 in Belgrade, has been postponed to June, with confirmed dates to be announced at a later stage.
We advise everyone to practise good hygiene, isolate themselves where possible while taking additional precautions, but keep physically active and maintain a positive outlook.
