EUSA EC Meeting Vilnius - Day 1
The first day of the Executive Committee of the European University Sports Association 01-2010 has concluded. Lithuanian Students’ Sports Association (LSSA) is hosting the first EUSA EC Meeting this year in Vilnius, Lithuania on March 19 and 20, 2010.
Before the meeting officially started, the EC Members, EUSA Office and representatives of EUSA Commissions attended the reception at the Presidential Palace where they were met by Chief Adviser to the President for Education, Science, Culture and Non-Governmental Organisations, Mrs Virginija Budiene.
During an informal discussion, several topics were touched upon, mainly considering sport in the framework of education, especially on university level.
After the reception at the Presidential Palace, the EUSA EC meeting started, hosted by the Ministry of Education and Science. At the meeting, after the EC members got acquainted with the current developments, finances and activities report, other strategic topics related to university sport in Europe were discussed. As a conclusion, several important decisions were taken.
EUSA Student Commission
New members of the Student Commission (EUSA STC) were elected for the mandate of two years: Julien Buhajezuk (FRA), Zoltan Rakaczki (HUN), Maria Rubach (NOR) and Olga Doktorova (RUS). Andre Couto (POR), was elected for the period of one year, due to resignation of the former STC Chair, Iris Olberding. The existing member, Vice-Chair Karolina Rohan (POL) was nominated as the new Chair, and the existing member Eleftheria Kallikazarou (GRE) as the Vice-Chair.
European Universities Championships 2010
Progress reports on the 2010 EUC were presented. The preparation for the EUSA EUC events from the local Organising Committees is very successful, and professional. It was decided to open possibilities for more University teams to participate, the deadlines for registration for EUC events 2010 may be prolonged for 1 month, in previous agreement with EUSA Office. Specific information will be announced for each event. Due to experiences and specifics in organising EUSA golf event, it was decided that Golf will be organised on a biannual basis, so the EUC Golf will not be organised in Otocec (SLO) in 2010, but shall be postponed to 2011.
European Universities Championships 2011
EUSA EC attributed two new championships for 2011: Judo to Sarajevo (BIH) and Rugby 7s to Lille (FRA). Due to withdrawal of the host of the already attributed EUC Karate 2011, the EC also attributed the organisation of this event to Bosnian University Sport Federation, which will host the championship in Sarajevo. The bidding procedure for organisation of EUC Taekwondo 2011 has been postponed to September 1, 2010.
Other Decisions
EC members were informed about the resignation of Mr Phill Attwell, the current EUSA Treasurer. It was decided that the interim treasurer until the next election is the current EC member Leonz Eder.
EUSA EC meeting 01-2010 continues tomorrow, with emphasis on International cooperation and relations. Also a historic decision will be made tomorrow – selecting the organiser of the 1st European Universities Games, a multisport event which is to be held in 2012. A draw decided the order of the cities presenting the bid: Lisbon (POR), Cordoba (ESP) and Lodz (POL).
