EUSA EC meeting 04-2011: Day 1
The final meeting of the Executive Committee of EUSA in 2011 is taking place on November 25 and 26 in Cordoba, Spain. The meeting is being held at the Rectorate of the University of Cordoba. The members were met by the Rector of the University prof. dr Jose Manuel Roldan Nogueras and Vice-Rector of the University prof. dr. Manuel Torres Aguilar, welcoming them in the city and at their University.
As the 1st European Universities Games will be held next summer in Cordoba, a special press conference was held during the Executive Committee Meeting, at which the President of EUSA Mr Alberto Gualtieri and the highest University authorities briefly presented the concept of the Games and the cooperation with the University.
Members of the Executive Committee and other EUSA representatives and delegates were also met at the Cordoba City Hall by high representatives of the City, who welcomed EUSA family in the historic Andalusian City, and expressed their full support for the 2012 Games.
At the meeting, EUSA EC members were first informed about the activities of EUSA which have been carried out from the time of last meeting in St Gallen (SUI) earlier in September this year by the President Mr Gualtieri, Secretary General Mr Pecovnik, Sports Manager Mr Roczek and Communications Manager Mr Pisl. After the Office report, special emphasis has been given to specific projects. First the projects which are supported by EU / European Commission funding were presented, namely the update on the European Anti-Doping Initiative (EADIn), announcing the Final Conference, to take place during the 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games in January in Innsbruck (AUT). EUSA is also a partner in the project "Prevention of sexualized violence in Sports - Impulses for an open, secure and sound sporting environment in Europe"; with German sport Youth (DSJ) being the main applicant, partnered also with ENGSO Youth and others.
Executive Committee members confirmed the dates of the 2013 European Universities Championships, and got acquainted with the progress report of the 2014 European Universities Games. This year’s season of the championships will conclude in December with the European Universities Taekwondo Championship in Braga, Portugal.
Representatives of the EUSA Committees and Working bodies presented their report; namely the Medical Commission, presented by Mr Pavletic; Student Commission, presented by Ms Collischonn and Gender Equality Working Group, presented by Mr Canibe Sanchez. The Executive Committee decided to adopt and endorse the Brighton Declaration on women and sport.
Among other topics, the board also discussed legal and financial matters, as well as the international relations and cooperation with member federations, universities and other organisations. The meeting will continue and conclude on Saturday, November 26, with the presentation of the bids for the 2nd European Universities Games 2014. The bidding cities are Wroclaw, Poland and Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
