EUSA-BUCS meeting in London

On the invitation of British University and Colleagues Sports (BUCS), EUSA President Adam Roczek and Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik visited London to meet with BUCS representatives and attend the BUCS Rugby Union Championship Finals.

EUSA President and Secretary General were welcomed by Mr Vince Mayne, BUCS Chief Executive Officer, Mr Neil Rogers, Head of International Programmes, Mr Mark Brian, Head of Sport Department and Mr Bill Thompson, BUCS International Advisory Group member and Head of Sport and Leisure Services at the City University London. BUCS representatives presented the structure and main activities of BUCS and discussed with EUSA the possibilities for strengthen the cooperation with EUSA in the future. Mr Rogers also presented the preparation for participation of the universities from Great Britain at the European Universities Games 2016, which will be held in July in Zagreb-Rijeka. EUSA representatives were happy to hear that a record number of around 400 students and officials from Great Britain intend to take part in the Games.

During the visit, Mr Roczek and Mr Pecovnik had an opportunity to meet also with some of the present and former BUCS representatives in EUSA committees, among them Mrs Alison Odell, EUSA Honorary Member, Ms Isabella Colafrancesco, EUSA Student Commission Chair, Mr Phil Atwell, former EUSA Treasurer, Mr Bob Reeves, former EUSA Rugby 7s Technical Delegate and Mr Christopher Purdie, former STC Member.

At the end of their stay, EUSA representatives attended the BUCS Rugby Union Championship Finals at Twickenham Stadium, which is referred to as the home of rugby union as the English rugby union team plays nearly all their home games at the stadium. Twickenham also hosts England's home Six Nations matches, as well is the venue for a number of other domestic and international rugby union matches. But on March 23, 2016, the stadium was the home of university sport and EUSA representatives could enjoy the exiting finals between best men and women university teams.
