EUSA attends AUSF General Assembly 2016

The 9th General Assembly of the Asian University Sports Federation (AUSF) was held in Xiamen, China on November 20 and 21, 2016. Almost 120 participants from nearly 50 countries or regions, including representatives of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and Continental University Sports Federations were present at the event.

European University Sports Association (EUSA) was represented by its Vice President Mr Kemal Tamer and Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik.

AUSF Assembly

The Assembly began with the welcome speech by the hosts. On behalf of Federation of University Sport of China (FUSC), Executive Vice President and Secretary General Mr Liguo Yang warmly welcomed all the participants, saying that together with other counterparts, China would like to continue to strive for the development of Asian University Sports Federation and wished the meeting productive and successful.

FISU President Mr Oleg Matytsin

FISU President Mr Oleg Matytsin delivered his congratulatory speech, highly praising the contribution Asia made toward world university sports movement by virtue of hosting six Summer Universiades and a Winter Universiade in last 16 years and nine out of 33 World University Championships this year.

EUSA Vice-President Mr Kemal Tamer

In his address to the delegates and guests, EUSA Vice-President Mr Tamer thanked AUSF for the invitation. “EUSA and AUSF have been working together for several years, and I am convinced that also this fact lead to growth of both organisations. We are convinced that the partnerships and cooperation strengthens the organisations and university sport movement in general” stressed Mr Tamer and wished the delegates smooth and fruitful Assembly. EUSA Vice President also presented the EUSA plaquette to AUSF.

AUSF-EUSA gift exchange

Following the agenda, AUSF Secretary General Mr Kenny Chow made his report by reviewing the achievements made in this term 2010-2016, with regard to a good number of competitions and events, educational programs and interactive activities. His report was followed by the reports of the AUSF Treasurer and Auditor. The Assembly after also approved some amendments to the AUSF constitution, which will provide AUSF with better criteria for future actions and will help AUSF board members and the Secretariat to better serve member countries and regions, universities and student athletes. In addition, with affiliation of Afghanistan and Bhutan the number of AUSF members increased to 38. The first part of the assembly ended with the presentation on Summer Universiade 2017 to be held in Chinese Taipei from August 19th to 30th, 2017.

Cultural programme

In the afternoon, all the delegates were invited to the Opening Ceremony of 2016 World University 3x3 Basketball Championship held at the Huaqiao University. In the evening, a welcome banquet was hosted in the name of AUSF for all the delegates and guests, during which AUSF presented awards and memorial plaques to their member federations and invited guests.

On the second day of the Assembly, a new AUSF Executive Committee 2016-2022 was elected, as follows: President: Mr Yanqing Xue (CHN), Senior Vice President: Mr Omar Al-Hai (UAE), Vice Presidents: Mr Ching-Yu Tseng (TPE), Mr Dorjsuren Jargalsaikhan (MGL), Secretary General: Mr Kenny Chow (HKG), Vice Secretary General: Mr Zhen Shen (CHN), Treasurer: Mr Chen Fave Seetow (SIN), Assessors: Mr Ayub Hanafiah (MAS), Mr Kairat Zakiryanov (KAZ), Mr Histato Igarashi (JPN) and Mr Singh Purna Bohara (NEP).
