EUSA attended anniversary celebrations of the University of Vienna

On the invitation of the University of Vienna and Unisport Austria, EUSA President Mr Adam Roczek and EUSA Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik visited Vienna from June 25-27, 2015 to attend the International University Rowing Regatta, held at the occasion of the 650th Anniversary of the University of Vienna.

The Opening Ceremony took place at the University of Vienna on Thursday, June 25, 2015. The participating university teams were welcomed by Prof. Dr. Heinz W. Engl, Rector of the University of Vienna, Dr. Reinhold Mitterlehner, Federal Minister of Science, Research and Economy, Mag. Horst Nussbaumer, President of Austrian Rowing Federation and Mr Adam Roczek, EUSA President.

Mr Roczek stressed the important role Austria has played in the development of EUSA and thanked Mr Wolf Fruhauf, EUSA Honorary Member and Mrs Hemma Angerer, Unisport Austria President for their constant contribution for further development of university sport in Austria and Europe. EUSA President also congratulated the University of Vienna the 650th Anniversary and presented its Rector a special EUSA commemorative plaque.

After the welcoming speeches, the draw for the International University Rowing Regatta was held. The competition took place next day in the evening at the Rowing Centre New Danube, with participation of 11 men and 5 women university teams from 9 countries.

After the exciting event, the winner in men competition became the University of Aachen (GER), while silver medal went to the University of Cambridge (GBR) and bronze to the University of Vienna (AUT). In women competition, the University of Hamburg (GER) won in front of the University of Vienna (AUT) and ETH Zurich (SUI).
