EUSA at the OUSA General Assembly
On September 29, 2014, the General Assembly of the Oceania University Sports Association (OUSA) was held in Sydney, Australia. The event, hosted by the Australian Federation of University Sports, attracted the participation of all eleven OUSA member federations.
At the beginning, OUSA President Mr Ray Preston welcomed all the delegates and invited guests, among them also Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, EUSA Secretary General and Mr Laurent Briel, FISU Director of Development and NUSF Relations. Mr Pecovnik thanked, on behalf of EUSA President Mr Roczek, for the invitation to the assembly and wished the delegates a successful assembly. At the end of his speech, he presented EUSA plaques to the representatives of OUSA and the host - the Australian Federation of University Sports.
The assembly continued with approval of the agenda and approval of the minutes of the previous meeting. After the reports of the President, Secretary General and Financial Manager, the assembly approved the activity plan and the budget for the next period. The delegates also agreed on some of the modification of the statutes. After, the elections of the new Executive Committee took place.
The new OUSA board is composed as follows: President Martin Doulton (AUS), Vice President Alifereti Cawanibuka (FIJ), Secretary General Kelly Blas (GUM), Members Eric Michalak (New Caledonia), Michael White (NMI) and Lipine Peresetene (SAM). Mr Ray Preston was nominated as OUSA Honorary President.
In the afternoon, the Strategic Planning Session took place. Firstly, Mr Briel presented the development policy of FISU, including its relations with continental federations. EUSA Secretary General Mr Pecovnik made a presentation on the structure and activities of EUSA, focusing on organisation of the European Universities Games.
The last presentation was devoted to the first OUSA championship, a beach soccer competition, to be held in New Caledonia. On the second day, workshops and a visit to the Olympic venues and Australian UniGames were on the programme.
