EUSA at the EAS Dual Career Conference 2015

The 12th Conference of the European Athlete as Student (EAS) - Dual Career network and General Assembly was held at the Sports campus of the Amsterdam University of Applied science in Amsterdam, the Netherlands on September 24 and 25, 2015. European University Sports Association (EUSA) was represented at the even by its Communications and Projects Manager Mr Andrej Pisl.

The conference entitled "Dual Career as an educational challenge in the European environment of sports” started by the opening address by the EAS President Mrs Laura Capranica and on behalf of the hosts Mr Dennis van Vlaanderen, manager Topsport Academy Amsterdam and Mrs Jacomine Ravensbergen, Dean faculty of Sport and Nutrition.

In the first group of plenary sessions the Dutch dual career system has been introduced from aspects of the institutions as well as student athletes, including a student with disability, sharing their stories and experiences combining their academic and sports careers.

Talented student athletes

Several EU-supported projects from the field of dual careers have been presented at the Conference, followed by an overview of EU sports policy and the recent developments, presented by Mrs Agata Dziarnowska from the European Commission DG EAC - Sport and Erasmus+.

The Conference also featured workshops on good practices, challenges and involvement of sport and education system in dual careers, poster presentation of partner organisations, including EUSA, FISU, ENAS and other organisations.

Partners

The two finalists of the Bengt Nybelius Scholarships presented their research in a plenary session and the winner was announced at a special award ceremony during the gala dinner at the end of the Conference.

Sports activities during the conference

The conference featured several demonstrations of sports and recreation, including sports clinics.

EAS General Assembly

During the Conference the dual career network - EAS - also held their General Assembly at which the members and guests got acquainted with the past activities and future plans, which include the formalisation of the network.
