EUSA at the BUCS Rugby 7s Championships 2017

On invitation by BUCS, EUSA Technical Delegate Rugby 7s Mr Jack Jacobs and EUSA Executive Committee member Mr Bill Thompson visited the BUCS University Championships Rugby Sevens in Leeds on April 26th 2017.

Representatives of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) took the opportunity to come to Leeds to witness high level University Rugby 7s matches of both, men and women contenders and to talk with British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) about the possibilities of entering British teams to the EUSA European Universities Rugby 7s Championship 2017 in Milan and the Rugby 7s events at the European Universities Games 2018 in Coimbra in order to complete the level of the EUSA Rugby 7s tournaments to the highest standards with participating University teams from all the top Rugby countries.

Meeting the teams

During the Championship finals, EUSA representatives were delighted to be witness of very high quality rugby play by well trained and dedicated Universities.

Male champions: Northumbria University

A total of 14 men and 12 women University teams contended for the title with Edinburgh University claiming the BUCS Women Rugby 7s championship title by defeating Durham University (22-10) and Northumbria University claimed the men’s BUCS Rugby 7s championship title by winning with 24-19 over Loughborough University.

Female Champions: University of Edinburgh

We are very thankful to BUCS for the invitation to visit the BUCS Rugby 7s Championships and for the time to talk about further cooperation in regards to the British participation at future EUSA Rugby 7s tournaments. We hope to be able to welcome a British Rugby 7s men’s team at our top-level EUSA Rugby 7s tournament in the near future.
