EUSA at the 2016 Congress for Sports, Economics and Media
The City of Hamburg hosted the 16th Congress for Sports, Economics and Media on September 12 and 13, 2016, held at the HafenCity University of Hamburg. The event was organized by the University Sports Hamburg together with the University of Applied Sciences.
30 invited international speakers discussed the topics related to organization of major sports events, economics and media. The event that attracted over 100 participants was officially opened by Mr Walter Pelka, President of HafenCity University.
One of the main speakers was Hamburg Senator for the Interior and Sport, Mr Andy Grote, who stressed that despite the failed referendum to host Olympic Games in 2024, Hamburg will implement the "Active City" concept, with overall more than 30 projects connected to sport planned until 2024.
On the invitation of the Organising Committee, the European University Sports Association - EUSA was also invited to contribute at the congress. EUSA Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik presented to the participants the activities of EUSA, focusing on European Universities Games 2016 in Zagreb and Rijeka and its legacy, as well as the details on the bidding procedure to host this biggest student sport event in Europe.
During the congress, Mr Pecovnik also had the opportunity also to meet with representatives of the German University Sports Federation (ADH), Mr Christoph Fischer, Mr Bernd Lange and Mr Joerg Foerster, the latter also being involved in the organization of the conference.
