EUSA at Rector's Inauguration

The solemn inauguration of the new Rector of the University of Zagreb prof. dr. Damir Boras was held at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb on October 14, 2014.

Inauguration ceremony, which was attended by over 600 invited guests, began with singing the national anthem, followed by the speeches of academics Mr Zvonko Kusic, Mayor of Zagreb Mr Milan Bandic, Minister of Science and Technology prof. dr. sc. Vedran Mornar and President of the Republic of Croatia prof. dr. Ivo Josipovic.

The ceremony continued with a speech of the previous rector prof. dr. Aleksa Bjelis, who handed over the symbols of the University of Zagreb to the new rector prof. dr. Damir Boras. Afterwards, the new Rector made his inaugural speech. The ceremony ended with singing the academic anthem Gaudeamus Igitur.

Representatives of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) and European Universities Games Zagreb - Rijeka 2016 also attended the ceremony. Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, EUSA Secretary General together with EUG 2016 President Mr Zrinko Custonja and EUG 2016 Vice-President Mr Haris Pavletic met after the inauguration with Mr Boras and wished him a successful mandate.

They also expressed hope to have fruitful cooperation on the European Universities Games to be held in Croatia in July 2016, as University of Zagreb will be one of the leading partners on the project.
