EUSA at ENGSO Seminar 2015

The European Non-Governmental Sports Organisation (ENGSO) held its annual ENGSO Seminar on April 29, 2015 in Lisbon, Portugal. The Seminar was hosted by the Portuguese Sports Confederation (CDP) and was held at the Sport Museum in Lisbon, attended by participants from Portuguese and European organisations and institutions. ENGSO Seminar will be followed by the ENGSO and ENGSO Youth General Assembly. European University Sports Association (EUSA) was presented at the Seminar by its President Mr Adam Roczek, Student Commission Chair and EC Member Mr Bruno Barracosa and Communications and Projects Manager Mr Andrej Pisl.

Latest developments of the EU Sports Policy were presented by Mrs Florence Mondin, European Commission’s Policy Officer at the Sport Unit, DG EAC, followed by Ms Heidi Pekkola, ENGSO Sports Policy Director. Update on EPAS and Current issues from the Council of Europe were presented by Mrs Wendela Kuper, Chair of the EPAS Governing Board.

In the second session, the focus was on Sports for All, with presentation of the European Week of Sport (EWoS), its concept and planned activities by Mrs Mondin. Ms Helena Carlsson, ENGSO Secretary General presented the outline of the planned activities and invited the participants to take part in the workshops to contribute with ideas.

European Week of Sport and #BeActive Campaign

Portuguese examples on sport for all were presented by Mr Duarte Lopes from the Lisbon University, with an illustration of the role of Universities in Sports for All. Mr Antonio Jose Silva, President of the Portuguese Swimming Federation, presented the project “Portugal a Nadar” (Portugal Swimming) as a practical example of activities in this field.

University sport was presented not only by EUSA representatives but also by the President of the Portuguese Academic Federation of University Sport (FADU) Ms Filipa Godinho and several other university and university sport representatives.

Workshops

EUSA is expected to sign a cooperation agreement with the European Commission in the beginning of June regarding the European Week of Sport and #BeActive campaign and other activities related to promotion and enhancing participation in sport and physical activity in general.
