EUSA and FISU attend Karate World Championship

Between October 25 and 29, the Karate World Championship for Cadets, Juniors and Under 21 was held in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain. A very successfully organized Championship was attended by more than 1800 athletes coming from 109 countries.

EUSA Sports Manager attended the Championship, meeting EUSA’s partners - European Karate Federation, as well as newly elected FISU Karate Technical Delegate.

Karate World Championship

On Thursday, a meeting was held between Sports Manager of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) Mr Besim Aliti, EUSA Technical Delegate for Karate Mr Davor Cipek, Technical Delegate of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and World Karate Federation (WKF) Executive Committee member Mr Souleymane Gaye and Secretary General of the European Karate Federation (EKF) Mr Stjepan Celan.

The current situation of karate in university sport was analysed, following the ideas and action plan of further developing karate within the governing bodies, in number of participants and level of performance, and also increasing the level of cooperation between EKF and WKF with university community.

Competitions

The following day a meeting was held in the Competition Venue with EKF/WKF President Mr Antonio Espinos and WKF Athletes Commission Chairman Mr Davide Benetello. Mr Espinos emphasized that European Karate Federation is extremely happy with the cooperation that was developed with EUSA. He highlighted the professional dedicated of EUSA Technical Delegate Mr Cipek and complimented the successful European Universities Championship 2017 held in Coimbra, Portugal. He added that the model of successful cooperation between EUSA and EKF should be used an example for other continental University Sport and Karate Federations. Mr Benetello welcomed the initiative and added that these meetings can lead not only to a great development of karate at university level, but also towards strengthening connection with university community.
