Between February 26 and 28, the University of Minho hosted the ENAS (European Network of Academic Sport Services) staff training called ENAS Experience Minho 2018, aimed at event managers involved in the organisation of large scale events under the heading Event management: What can we learn from organising large scale events and championships. Exchange ideas and learn from your international colleagues through interactive presentation and hands-on workshops.

The sport service of the host was represented by Mr Fernando Parente, Director of Sport Department at University of Minho and member of the FISU Executive Committee. Minho University sports service was created in 1995, and since then, has gained a lot of experience in organizing national and international sport events including the organization of several World and European Championships. It is recognized by Sports and Academic Authorities, at national and international level for the excellence of their facilities, quality of service and skilled and experienced staff. In 2018, the University of Minho will host the World University Cycling Championship, and in 2019 the European Universities Futsal Championship.



The training was attended by the sport department representatives of several European Universities, among others the universities from Hamburg, Southampton, Birmingham, Madrid, London, Helsinki, Vigo, Porto, Malaga, Lodz, Rotterdam, Potsdam, Lisbon, and representatives of FISU and EUSA. European University Sports Association (EUSA) was represented by its Sports Manager Mr Besim Aliti, who presented the EUSA sports program and activities, focusing on the European Universities Games. EUSA Executive Committee member Mr Aitor Canibe Sanchez presented good practice case study on managing sports at the University Camilo Jose Cela.



One of the sessions was dedicated to the European Universities Games 2018 in Coimbra, by numbers the biggest sport event in the history of Portugal. Mr Mario Santos, Secretary General of the EUG 2018, presented the program, expectations and legacy that the Games will achieve and used the opportunity to invite the attendees to Coimbra this July.



The feedback from the attendees as well as the presenters was extremely positive emphasizing the importance of such trainings and workshops aiming to promote the value of organizing sport events, especially European and World University Championships and Games, and highlighting the legacy value of such projects.
