On Wednesday March 6, 2013 the delegation of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) with EUSA President Mr Adam Roczek and Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik visited the Headquarters of the European Handball Federation (EHF) in Vienna, Austria.

 

There they were met by the EHF President Mr Jean Brihault and Secretary General Mr Michael Wiederer. They discussed about the activities of both organisations, focusing especially on the joint projects within Handball events in EUSA - namely the European Universities Championships and European Universities Games.

 

With strong involvement of Mr Frantisek Taborsky, EUSA Technical Delegate for Handball and long term EHF Commission member, the cooperation between organisations started with referee clinics and participation of EHF referees on the European Universities Championships already years ago.

 

The cooperation and partnership was today reinforced with a joint meeting and signing the Cooperation agreement between EUSA and EHF, signed by both Presidents and Secretaries General. As part of the agreement, EHF will provide referees through its Young Referees Programme for the European Universities Handball Championships and during the European Universities Games.

 

In the discussions, the President of EHF Mr Brihault emphasised the importance of university sport also to EHF and presented the cooperation as a way of having a platform for the referee training and providing them experience on one hand and providing quality refereeing to university teams in EUSA events on the other. EUSA President Mr Roczek confirmed the importance of such cooperation, promoted the notion of the dual career of athletes and students and thanked Mr Brihault for the past, current and future cooperation and support.

 

They also discussed the 7th European Universities Handball Championship, which be organised this year in Katowice, Poland between June 23 and 30. EUSA representatives also presented some souvenirs to the highest EHF officials, including a special edition of the EUSA Anniversary Book.
