EUSA a partner of the European Week of Sport

The European Commission, represented by the Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Mr Tibor Navracsics, signed the cooperation agreements regarding the European Week of Sport with new partners on June 2, 2015 in Brussels – also with the European University Sports Association (EUSA).

The signing was a part of the Launch of the Communication Campaign of the European Week of Sport (EWOS) 2015, which will be promoted through the #BeActive campaign also with the help of 25 partner organisations, EUSA being one among them.

EUSA delegation consisting of its President Mr Adam Roczek, Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik and Communications and Projects Manager Mr Andrej Pisl attended the event in Brussels.

Launch event

The participants were the national coordinators in 31 countries and representatives of 25 partner organisations. The event was moderated by Mr Yves Le Lostecque, Head of Sport Unit, and it started with the general introduction and updates about the European Week of Sport. Presentations were done by Mr Antonio Silva Mendes, Director Youth and Sport and Mrs Susanne Hollmann, Deputy Head of Sport Unit.

A more detailed presentation of the #BeActive campaign followed, first in plenary session and also with workshops on media and social media outreach.

Commissioner Navracsics welcomed the participants and thanked them for their engagement. He also announced the special ambassadors for the upcoming first European Week of Sport. Footballers Clarence Seedorf and Steven Gerrard, skeet shooter Danka Bartekova and Paralympic alpine skier Marie Bochet will be the first four ambassadors promoting the Europe-wide event aimed at encouraging people to engage in sport and physical activity.

The ceremonial signing with the new partners in the European Week of sport followed. On behalf of EUSA, its President Mr Roczek signed the cooperation agreement, pledging to promote the initiative, take active part in the campaign, also through EUSA events and activities.

After the signing, a family photo was taken with the Commissioner and representatives of the partners. The event concluded with an overview of the next steps and the outlook on the Week, given on behalf of the European Commission by Mr Jens Nymand Christensen, Deputy Director-General, DG Education and Culture.

The launch also served as a great opportunity to open new discussions and potential partnerships with European partners, as well as strengthen the cooperation and communication with the existing partners.
