European Week of Winter Sport launches first events
Inspired and modelled by the European Week of Sport and the #BeActive campaign, celebrated in Europe between September 23-30, the European Week of Winter Sport with its #BeActiveWinter campaign is being celebrated February 1-8 in partner countries in Europe.
European Week of Winter Sport (EWWS) is a project, co-funded by the European Union. In 2025 as the pilot edition, it has events organised in 8 countries: Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Slovenia and Spain.
Anyone in Europe can actually join the initiative, also outside the core partner countries; sports federations and clubs, education institutions, local administration, sport facilities and resorts managers, non-profit organisations, businesses as well as individuals may enter events at brief reports at https://wintersportweek.com/events/. Check out the page also to get inspired and join the events nearby! The project also offers engagement for individuals by inviting them to take part in the Promotional Videos contest, open this year until February 15, one week after the end of the inaugural and pilot edition of the European Week of Winter Sport.
European University Sports Association (EUSA) promotes the concept and the initiative, both through the participation in the project with the EUSA Institute, as well as with concrete activities. We invite our members and partners to carry out activities in their own countries, and join us for an online webinar on European Week of Winter Sport and university sport winter events on February 6, starting at 1PM CET.
The general object of the European Week of Winter Sport (EWWS) project is to encourage the healthy lifestyles for all and participation in sport and physical activity in winter, embracing cold, snow and ice. At the same time, through the project we are raising awareness about climate change, promote sustainability and greener sports through the creation and the implementation of the European Week of Winter Sport.
The project addresses several European priorities, starting with encouraging healthy lifestyles for all, with a focus on promoting physical activity and sport as a tool for health. This is evident from the project's objectives, which include promoting physical activity in winter, making winter sports more accessible and inclusive, and raising awareness about climate change and sustainability through winter sports.
