European Week of Sport 2016 starts

European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Mr Tibor Navracsics opened today, on September 10, the European Week of Sport in Kosice, Slovakia. The European Week of Sport and the #beactive campaign aim to promote sport and physical activity across Europe.

The emphasis is that sport, recreation and physical activity are for everyone, regardless of age, background or fitness level. With a focus on grassroots initiatives, European Commission, national coordinator and partners want to inspire Europeans to #BeActive on a regular basis and create opportunities in peoples’ everyday lives to exercise more.

In 2016, we celebrate the second edition of the European Week of Sport. The event officially kicked off in Kosice, Slovakia, but the start of this pan-European initiative was celebrated across Europe with a flashmove flashmob, coordinated by the International Sports and Culture Association (ISCA).

One of the flashmove events was attended also by the staff of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) in Ljubljana, within the framework of the city's sports days.

EUSA representatives also took the opportunity to greet the Mayor of Ljubljana Mr Zoran Jankovic, as on September 20 EUSA will celebrate the International Day of University Sport with a hike in Ljubljana, and the city will host the European Universities Badminton Championship in 2017.

Apart from actively promoting the Week and the campaign throughout the year, taking part in activities and events, organising a hike, EUSA Convention will also be organised within the European Week of Sport between September 22 and 25 in Bled, Slovenia.
