European Universities Water Polo Cup started in Koper
The inaugural European Universities Water Polo Cup Koper 2017 commenced on Monday, July 10, with the opening ceremony, held at the Olympic swimming pool of Zusterna in Koper, Slovenia. The competition matches started the following day, on July 11.
The event was opened by the Vice-Rector of the University of Primorska Mr Boris Kavur, Vice-Mayor of the Municipality of Koper Mr Peter Bolcic, President of the Slovenian University Sports Association (SUSA) Mr Patrik Perosa and Sports Manager of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) Mr Besim Aliti.
At the conclusion of the opening, representatives of the Municipality of Koper and the University of Primorska also held a friendly match.
Six universities from six countries are taking part in the EUSA Cup in Koper; Budapest University of Technology and Economics (HUN), St. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje (MKD), University of Belgrade (SRB), University of Lyon (FRA), University of Primorska (SLO) and University of Split (CRO). The matches run from Tuesday, July 11 to Saturday, July 15, between 7 and 10 pm.
The competition is conducted by the University Sports Association of the Primorska (USZP) and the Slovenian University Sports Association, with the support and sponsorship of the Municipality of Koper, the University of Primorska and the Student Organization of the University of Primorska.
Although this is the first EUSA Water Polo Cup, the sport has been featured as a demonstrative sport at the European Universities Games in Zagreb-Rijeka in 2016.
