European Universities Table Tennis Championship 2017 concludes
The European Universities Table Tennis Championship 2017 has officially concluded on June 25 with an exciting closing ceremony in the Palacky University Sports Hall in Olomouc, Czech Republic.
Thanks to the hard work of the Organising Committee, volunteers and partners, over 130 participants from 28 European universities took part in this year’s edition of the event and were able to enjoy 6 separate competitions across 5 days.
In the men’s team finals, the title of champions went to the Angelus Silesius State School of Higher Vocational Education in Walbrzych (POL) who won an exciting final match against the Technical University of Ostrava (POL). After a thrilling match up in the women’s team finals, the title of champions went to Kazan Innovative University named after V.G. Timiryasov (RUS), beating Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa (POL).
Robert Floras from the Angelus Silesius State School of Higher Vocational Education in Walbrzych (POL) achieved the gold medal in the men’s single competition, after winning in the final match against his close friend and team mate Piotr Chodorski. In women’s singles finals, the title of champions went to Anna Blazhko from Kazan Innovative University named after V.G. Timiryasov (RUS) who won an exciting final match against Ekaterina Guseva, who, again came from the same university as her opponent.
In the men’s doubles finals, Robert Floras was including in the medals as he and his doubles partner Pawel Fertikowski from The Angelus Silesius State School of Higher Vocational Education in Walbrzych (POL) won an exciting final match against Kirill Gerassimenko & Ilya Zhidkov from Magnitogorsk State Technical University (RUS). Sandra Wabik & Paulina Nowacka from the University School of Physical Education in Wroclaw (POL) won a close final match against Haoyu Liu & Maria Tsaptsinos from the University of Nottingham (GBR), winning the game in the fifth and final set.
In the closing ceremony accompanied by the cultural programme, winning teams and individual winners were awarded their medals and trophies, presented by special quests coming from EUSA, the local organising committee and supporting partners. The next European Universities Table Tennis Championship will take place in Camerino, Italy in 2019, and Table Tennis will also be features at the European Universities Games next year in Coimbra. With the support of the European Table Tennis Union (ETTU), we are inviting university teams to join us at the future EUSA Table Tennis events.
