European Universities Rugby 7’s Championship 2017 concludes

The 8th European Universities Rugby 7s Championship concluded on Sunday, July 23, at the Giuriati Sport Center in Milan, with an exciting finals in the women’s and men’s tournament, followed by the awards and closing Ceremony.

Over 200 participants representing 10 European Universities from 7 countries took part in this year’s edition of the event.

Men's competitions

In men’s final, the title of champions went to Georgian National University SEU, who won a thrilling final match against Kuban State University (RUS) 25-0.

Male winning team

In women’s final, the title of champion/s went to the University of Toulouse III – Paul Sabatier, who won an exciting French derby against the University of Paris 13 with the score of 10-0.

Medals and awards were presented by the authorities of the European University Sports Association (EUSA), lead by Mr Haris Pavletic, EUSA Vice President and Chair of the event’s Supervision, Control and Arbitration Commission (SCAC), and on behalf of the the Organising Committee Mr Italo Carli, its Chairman.

Male MVP award

The men Most Valuable Player (MVP) award was given to Ioseb Mathiashvili from the Georgian National University SEU, while the women MVP award was given to Coralie Bertrand, from University of Toulouse III – Paul Sabatier. Awards was presented by EUSA Technical Delegate Mr Jack Jacobs and Assistant Technical Delegate Mrs Veronika Muehlhofer.

The men fair-play award was given to Kuban State University (RUS), while the women fair-play award went to the home team of University of Milan (ITA). Awards was presented by referees manager for Rugby Europe Domenico Sironi.

Female matches

The competition was organized by CUS Milano and CUSI Lombardia, with contribution of Lombardia region, Metropolitan City of Milan and Municipality of Milan. Rugby Europe, one of the important partners of EUSA, has supported also this edition of the European Universities Rugby 7’s Championship in Milan.

EUSA flag passing

Finally, the EUSA flag was passed to a representative of Coimbra as the next EUSA Rugby 7’s will be held there during the European Universities Games next year. The next European Universities Rugby 7’s Championship will take place in Orleans, France in 2019, and all teams are warmly welcomed to join the next Rugby 7s events!
