European Universities Games 2020 Seminar in Ljubljana

Members of the Organizing Committee of the European Universities Games 2020, which will take place in Belgrade, Serbia, attended a seminar in Ljubljana on October 20, 2017. At the seminar, representatives of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) provided initial information needed to begin the organizational process towards the 2020 Games.

The seminar was held at the Intercontinental hotel in Ljubljana. EUSA Secretary General Matjaz Pecovnik welcomed the participants in the city where EUSA has its headquarters and officially opened the morning session of the seminar.

This session was dedicated at exploring the relationships and connections between EUSA and the organizing committee, defining roles and responsibilities. Mr Pecovnik highlighted the will of working with the Organising Committee as partners rather than seeing EUSA as a supervisor along the steps of the organisational process leading to the European Universities Games 2020.

Mr Sinisa Jasnic, President of the University Sports Association of Serbia (USSS), presented the first steps undertaken by the Organising Committee, embracing the importance of working together.

EUSA Sports Manager Mr Besim Aliti

The morning session was concluded by EUSA Sports Manager Mr Besim Aliti who introduced the guidance and best practices leading to a successful project management. Across the morning many practical examples from the previous European Universities Games were highlighted, in order to point out the main challenges and opportunities for this future event.

EUSA Education and Development Manager Ms Sara Rozman

In the second part of the meeting, EUSA Education and Development Manager Ms Sara Rozman introduced the EUSA Conference and Gala, as well as events to be held in conjunction with the European Universities Games, especially the rectors’ conference. Ms Rozman highlighted the relevance of such events to enhance the involvement of European universities in university sport.

The seminar was concluded with an activity plan and a questions session, in which it was possible to bring up challenges and ideas. The participants also had the opportunity to visit the city of Ljubljana.
