European Universities Games 2018 receives recognition and support from Erasmus+

European Universities Games (EUG), governed by the European University Sports Association (EUSA) and organised biannually, is not only the largest multi-sport event for higher education students in Europe, but also incorporates accompanying programme for education, culture and promotion of key values of university sport, like participation in sport, physical activity, dual careers, fair play, clean and safe sport, inclusion and diversity.

The importance of this event has once again been recognised on European level, being selected as one of the events to receive support from the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union.

Coimbra, host of EUG2018

Portuguese City of Coimbra, host city of the 2017 EUSA Conference in April as well as the European Universities Championships in Judo, Karate and Taekwondo in July, will host the European Universities Games – EUG2018 in 2018. University of Coimbra is one of the key partners in the event, along with the University Sports Federation of Portugal (FADU), Coimbra Students’ Union (AAC) and City of Coimbra, working closely with EUSA in preparation of the event.

EUG2018 partners

We are extremely happy and proud that the results of the 2017 Erasmus+ Sport call, published earlier this month, showed that European Universities Games 2018 have been selected as one of the 10 not-for-profit European Sport Events to be funded by the programme of the European Union next year. This is a great recognition to the host city partners, EUSA and university sport in Europe, and even though the Games in Coimbra will be only the fourth edition of the European Universities Games, it will be already the second time that this type of events receives such a significant recognition and support from the European Union, after the 2014 Games in Rotterdam also receiving it.
