European Universities Football Championship opens in Porto

The Opening Ceremony of the 12th European Universities Football Championship took place on June 24 in the city center of Porto at Avenida dos Aliados. The Ceremony was attended by several spectators and key figures, including Ms Ana Luisa Pereira, President of Porto Academic Federation (FAP) and Daniel Monteiro, President of Portuguese Academic Federation of University Sports (FADU) and EUSA Family.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee participants were welcomed by Ms Ana Luísa Pereira, President of Porto Academic Federation (FAP).

OC representatives

EUSA Executive Committee representative Mr Antonis Petrou, Vice-President of Technical Commission, welcomed all participants who came to test their skills and abilities great competitions and all the best. He also thanked the Organizing Committee for all their contributions.

EUSA representative

EUSA is represented besides Mr Petrou also by the Technical Delegate Mr Andreas Demetriou, assisted by Ms Ourania Foskolou. They will make sure that the event will run smoothly and without problems. The Competition will host 16 male and 12 female teams representing 23 universities from 13 European countries.

Participating teams

The title of European Universities Champion is defended by University of Minho (POR) in male competition and by University of Montpellier (FRA) in female.

Home team

The Championship, which will last until July 30, is organized by Porto Academic Federation and FADU – Portugal University Sports, with contribution of Portuguese Football Federation (FPF).

Cultural programme

Porto Academic Federation is one of the biggest student structures in Portugal, and one of its largest sector is university sports. FAP already organized two European Universities Championships in Beach Volleyball.
