EUG24 Supervision Commission meets in Miskolc
The Hungarian city of Miskolc hosted a two day Supervision Commission Meeting on 13-14 February 2024, as the local organisers provided updates of their continual progress in organisation of the next edition of the European Universities Games 2024 in Debrecen-Miskolc - ahead of the registrations deadline scheduled for March 1.
 
The Commission was led by EUSA Sports Manager Miha Zvan, Education & Development Manager Sara Rozaman, Consultant Natasa Jankovic, Sports Administrator Aleksandra Andreeva, Sports Officer Eszter Gulyas and Media Coordinator Salvatore Sisca.
 
 
The delegation of the EUG2024 Organising Committee included Representatives of the Hungarian University Sports Federation (MEFS) led by Secretary General Peter Juhasz, who gave the first welcoming reflecting the Organising Committee dedication, OC Project Manager Szabolcs Biro, Laszlo Vegh, Gyorgy Kovacs, Tamara Toth, accompanied by MEFS Board Member and EUSA EC Member Zoltan Rakaczki.
 
 
Welcoming the Commission in the University of Miskolc rectorat on Tuesday February 13 was Rector Zita Horvat, who thanked everyone for their work on the preparation of this event, which is a very important opportunity for her academic institution, as well as a perfect culmination of the dedication that University of Miskolc put in these past years in organizing big cultural and university sports events, for instance last summer EUSA EUC Badminton.
Prof. Dr. Horvat expressed her pride in the preparations undergoing, all the staff of the Local Organizing Committee and the common goal of involving as many local students, organizations and volunteers during next summer Games.
 
 
Mr Miha Zvan thanked the hosts for the efforts everyone is putting in, emphasising the importance of teamwork, essential in this two-city edition event, and the crucial role of these sessions of visits and meetings. As the event motto says, the 2024 EUGs are going to be "More than Games", and the Supervision Commission Visits are more than meetings: a great occasions for strengthening teams, hopes and expectations.
 
 
Mr Zoltan Rakaczki greeted all the attendees, presenting some legal aspects about the involvement of National Event Management Agency (NRÜ), present at the meeting with its representatives David Benedikti, Peter Horvath, Miklos Kantuly and Agota Schnell.
He subsequently introduced the various LOC representatives and colleagues; the local Miskolc organisers and the Debrecen OC delegation.
 
 
Dr. Szabolcs Biro finally gave an updated overview by functional areas, starting from the approved organigram and the various institutions involved. He presented the final and confirmed sport program, as well as the approved master plan of the event.
Communication and branding implementation was mentioned, followed by the remarks on the successful monitoring of the registration process, which led the way to the approval of the accreditation concept.
Further details about the transportation and connection plan were given, together with many updates on the accommodation and catering solutions that will be implemented, the international affairs program, the volunteers management and the initial protocol for the opening and closing ceremonies.
 
 
The day then continued at the DVTK Stadium with a series of group discussions that focused on all the primary aspects of the ongoing organisation: the small work groups reported and discussed in detail the state of the art of their relative sectors, together with representatives from Lounge Ltd. and Sport-Events Ltd.
These fruitful meetings were then followed by inspection visits to some event venues in the Miskolc University campus.
 

On Wednesday February 14 the Supervision Commission Meeting ended with a wrap-up session in the morning, when Ms Natasa Jankovic thanked the local organisers for the hard work and set the next steps and a series of regular report meetings, for a successful and memorable event next year.

Debrecen-Miskolc will host the 7th edition of the European Universities Games, from 12-24 July 2024, with more than 4500 athletes expected to compete in the largest university sport event in Hungary since 1965.
