EUG2024: first verdicts have been served
First verdicts are served on the European Universities Games 2024, with chess, judo and kickboxing having their finals and medalists!
More action is present while the second day of 3x3 Basketball competition and the third day of Football matches continue to serve great results. Futsal and volleyball are continuing with great flow, anticipating matches and high energy.
Today is the first day for EUG to announce some final results and to decorate the necks of the Chess, Judo, and Kickboxing players with some shining medals.
The first part of the day, the finals and awards ceremony unfolded for the Chess competition. Four categories got awards for both men and women: blitz individual, blitz team, rapid individual, and rapid team tournaments. The competition was extremely strong, with suspense about the new winners lasting until the end. In the women's blitz tournament, Bucharest University of Economic Studies (ROU) emerged as the winner, closely followed by Budapest University of Technology and Economics (HUN) and Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUN), both of which gained 8 points, just one point less than the winners.
It was the last day of judo competition for EUG 2024. This edition concluded with a great atmosphere during the team competition, where team spirit and fair play were abundant in the University Sports Hall. The champion team of these Games is Sumy State University (UKR), who dominated the entire day of competition. The silver medal was won by Windesheim University of Applied Sciences (NED). Finally, the University of Orleans (FRA) and Polytechnic University of Bucharest (ROU) both won the bronze medal.
The kickboxing ring was also on fire today for the last day of competition. The kicks during the medal fights showcased the athletes' strong will and determination to secure a place on the podium. We had the chance to witness some of the fights and attend the medal awarding ceremony. Medals were given in both men's and women's categories.
In Debrecen the day started with the men's and women's 3x3 basketball games creating an intense and spectacular second day of competition. The morning's intense matchups set the stage for an action-packed afternoon.
In the women's category, the University of Ljubljana (SLO) dominated the court, defeating Gazi University (TUR) 13-5 in just 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, the men's clash saw the University of Zagreb (CRO) overpower University Palacky Olomouc (CZE) with a thrilling 16-11 victory. The day's events showcased the fierce competition and skill that define this year's tournament, keeping fans on the edge of their seats.
The third day of football at EUG 2024 was a thrilling spectacle, especially in the women's category, where the Eindhoven University of Technology (NED) faced off against Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (GER). The German team triumphed with a decisive 4-1 victory, showcasing their formidable skill and strategy.
The day reached its peak with an electrifying match between the University of Debrecen (HUN), representing one of the host cities, and the University of Lisbon (POR). As the teams faced off on the field, the passionate home crowd increased the tension and created an outstanding atmosphere.
The fourth day of futsal brought double the desire to excel as both men's and women's games took place simultaneously, with the University of Pecs (HUN) showcasing their talents in both categories. The women's team battled fiercely against the University of the Littoral Opal Coast (FRA), finishing with 4:1 in favour f the Opal Coast.
In the men's tournament, a great match was held having University of Pecs (HUN) facing off against the University of Maribor (SLO). Every moment felt remarkable because of the explosive atmosphere and the loud cheers of the spectators for their teams.
Another close game was played between the University of Reims Champagne Ardenne (FRA) and Prague University of Economics and Business (CZE) and at the end of the game the French team became the winner.

The days at the European Universities Games in Debrecen and Miskolc are unfolding fastly, filled with thrilling atmosphere and high sporting spirit.
