EUG 2022: Press Conference
Today, the Organizational Committee of the European Universities Games in Lodz, held a press conference, in Geyer’s Gardens. Officials, representatives of the city of Lodz, media and volunteers had the chance to be present and to also see the beach volleyball and 3x3 basketball venues.
First to give a statement and open this conference was Mr Krzysztof Jóźwik, rector of the Lodz University of Technology. He stated that he’s happy and proud of the city of Lodz, shortly before the grand Opening Ceremony of this edition of the European Universities Games. He also said that they were aware of the difficulties due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic caused and thanked all the sponsors and Organising Committee for making everything happen here in Lodz.
Mr Adam Pustelnik, the Vice President of the city of Lodz expressed his pride of his city. He thanked Lodz City Hall and invited everyone to see what Lodz can offer - among which are the Atlas Arena and Piotrkowska Street. He also highlighted that anyone could watch the games inside the venues - for free. At the end he wished all the participants best of luck.
The President of the European University Sports Association (EUSA), Mr Adam Roczek stated how proud he is of his country, organizing the 6th European Universities Games. He also shared that around 5000 athletes, from 441 universities in Europe and volunteers from around 45 countries will be participating at the Games. He stated that they are trying to show the world another side of Poland - welcoming and safe. Mr Roczek also shared that this event would accommodate around 300 students from Ukraine and expressed happiness that they could arrive in Lodz and take part in the Games.
Mr Robert Zakrzewski and Ms Elżbieta Żądzińska, representatives of the University of Lodz, mentioned that their university also participated in organizing these European Universities Games and accommodated some of the athletes and volunteers. They wished all the participants the best of luck and a lot of medals for the universities of Lodz.
At today's conference, Ms Lucyna Prygiel-Augustyniak, the Regional Director of Polish Post in Lodz, had the honour to present the officially issued post stamp, made for the occasion of the Games, showing EUGenio, the official mascot of the European Universities Games. From today on, this post stamp will be available in post offices around the country, in circulation of 126.000 pieces.The stamps are also going to be available at the mobile points, located on the student campuses in Lodz.
Representatives of the athletes, both from the Lodz University of Technology, Ms Aleksandra Bednarek and Mr Jan Kałusowski, also expressed pride in the city of Lodz and their university. Bednarek mentioned Zatoka Sportu - and expressed satisfaction that this is one of the biggest venues of the Games that will host several sports.
