EUG 2022: Judo concludes, others carry on
Another combat sport has finished its journey on the European Universities Games 2022 in Lodz, Poland. The finals of judo took place today while the semi-finals for football and badminton were also going strong. Handball and basketball had their round 2 and 3 today.
One of the combat sports, judo, where techniques are generally intended to turn an opponent’s force to one’s own advantage rather than to oppose it directly has showcased its last day of competition today. All the competitors showed courtesy in practice and intended to promote an attitude of calm readiness and confidence throughout all the matches. Emotions and willing to win were not lacking. Competing single and in teams in both men and women categories, they all had their chance to give their best and earn a medal and as well to make sure they compete in the fair play spirit and have fun. We can easily say that judo had a great journey on these European Universities Games in Lodz, Poland.
A semi-finals day was for two sports, badminton and football. At all venues where the matches were played, great energy, competitive spirit and support was present. At Zatoka Sportu, people could attend the semi-finals of badminton played in teams. It was quite eventful and interesting to watch.
On Minerska and SMS footbal courts, the semi-finals were having their moment. We attended the match between Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (GER) and University of Bordeaux (FRA) and saw how university of Bordeaux secured their way to tommorows finals. On the next door court, Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University (UKR) was scoring their way to the finals against University of Coimbra (POR).
Men football teams had their semi-final matche today,too.The matches for qualifications in the finals tommorow were played on both courts. On the first court we saw State University of Trade and Economics (UKR) playing against Ramon Llull University (ESP) and on the second court we had West University of Timisoara (ROU) taking their chances against University of Split (CRO).
Handball in both women and men competition, was playing it round 2 today. Anilana hall and Sport Arena were the places where the goals were scored. The match between Stefan cel Mare University of Suceava (ROU) and University of Granada (ESP) was quite eventful and in the competitive and fun spirit that European Universties Games bring.
Basketball is slowly moving from round to round. Athletes are giving their best to secure a place at the finals that are going to take place on the last day of the Games. Today we visited the match played by University of Aveiro (POR) and Charles University (CZE).
While some conclude and other carry on with competitions, the GTM for swimming was held, to showcase the start of this discipline. Rules, regulations, format of competition and draws were made.
