EUC Volleyball 2010 starts

The Opening Ceremony of the 10th European Universities Volleyball Championship took place on 23-07-2010 in Warsaw at the courtyard of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music.

The Ceremony was attended FISU Executive Board Member Mr. Marian Dymalski, President of the Organizing Committee Mr. Marek Konopczyński, Deputy Rector of University of Warsaw  Prof. Tadeusz Tomaszewski, Frederic Chopin Music University Chancellor Mr. Marek Bykowski, President of AZS University of Warsaw Alojzy Nowak, Director of AZS in University of Warsaw Mr. Włodzimierz Leśniewski and EUSA representatives.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee participants were welcomed by prof. Marek Konopczyński, the President of Organizing Committee.

EUSA Delegate Mr. Wolf Fruhehauf welcomed all participants and wished all the best for the athletes and officials who came to test their skills and abilities. He also thanked the Organizing Committee for all their contribution. EUSA is also represented by Mr. Adam Roczek and Technical Delegates Mr. Suleyman Kocasert from Turkey and Mr. Jean-Loup Miguet from France.

 

Oath

On behalf of the officials and athletes, Mr. Phil Cobb (GBR Referee) and Damian Tomaszkiewicz (University of Warsaw) took an oath respecting fair play through the entire competition, which is taking place from 22 to 29 July 2010 in Warsaw and is organized by University Sport Association of Poland (AZS) with contribution of Ministry of Sport and Tourism of the Republic of Poland, Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Republic of Poland, Warsaw City Council, Mazovia Voivodship Marshal Office and in cooperation with the University of Warsaw.

 

Participating teams

13 men and 12 women university teams from 13 countries are participating at this year’s championship. The title of European Universities Champion is defended by Mordovskiy State University from Russia in men’s competition. In women’s tournament the current champion is not participating, therefore Hamburg team-last year’s runner-up “defends” the title.
