EUC Tennis starts

The Opening Ceremony of the 9th European Universities Championships tennis 2013 took place on September 2nd in Bar, Montenegro. The Ceremony was attended by the Mayor of the municipality of Bar Mr Zarko Pavicevic and of the director of the Directorate of Youth and sport in Montenegrin government Mr Igor Vusurovic. On behalf of the Organizing Committee participants were welcomed by Mr Vusurovic, who is an Olympic Games gold medallist in Volleyball at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

 

EUSA EC Delegate Ceslovas Gabraliauskas welcomed all participants and wished all the teams and participants who came to test their skills and abilities great competitions and all the best. He also thanked the Organizing Committee for all their contributions. He asked Mr Pavicevic to officially open the 9th EUC Tennis.

The competition is organized by the Students Sport Association of Montenegro and the Municipality of Bar with contribution of the tennis club Bar. It is taking place from September 2nd to September 8th in Bar.

EUSA is represented by its Executive Committee Member Mr Ceslovas Gabraliauskas and the Technical Delegate is Mr Daniel Studer, assisted by Mr Peter Sitar. They will make sure that the event will run smoothly and without problems. The competition is hosting 23 teams (13 men and 10 women) representing 18 universities from 14 countries. Out of the 77 participating players there are 18 with a former or actual ATP/WTA ranking.

General Technical Meeting
 

The title of European Universities Champion is defended by France at the men’s competition. The winner from last year - University of Poitier is not present but their colleagues from the University of Grenoble will try to win the title, along with the rest of the teams. At the women’s competition, the Moscow State University of Economics, Statistics and informatics will defend its title. 

First matches

 

The national university sports organisation of Montenegro already organized the 1st Universities Karate European Championship in 2003, the 3rd European Universities Karate Championship in 2007, the 6th European Universities Futsal Championship in 2009, the 7th World Karate University Championship in 2010 and they will organise the World University Karate Championship in 2014 in Bar and the European Universities Championship Karate 2015 in Podgorica.
