The Opening Ceremony of European Universities Table Tennis Championship took place on Wednesday 5th of July in Olomouc, Czechia.

The Ceremony was attended by Mr Josef Suchanek, the Head of Olomouc region; Ms Miroslava Ferancova, Vice Mayor of Olomouc; Ms Monika Vintrlikova, Czech Honour Counsel in Atlanta, USA; Mr Nikolas Endal, Chairman of the Czech Table Tennis Association and other significant guests. 

EUSA Executive Committee representative Ms Agita Abele welcomed all participants and wished all the teams and participants who came to test their skills and abilities well ahead of the start of the competition, while also thanking the Organising Committee for all their contributions.

The European Universities Table Tennis Championship is returning to Olomouc after 6 years and it is organised by Czech University Sports Association and Table Tennis Club Olomouc. In 2017 the championship took place in the sports hall of Palacký University, this year the tournament is hosted by Olomouc’s Omega Centre for Sport and Health.

The European Universities Championship in Table Tennis officially began on 4th of July with the General Technical Meeting being held. However the offical competition days are from  5th to 9^th of July and are being held in Omega Sport and Health Centre Olomouc. 

EUSA is represented by EUSA SCAC Chair Ms Agita Abele, Mr Andrzej Hrehorowicz EUSA Technical Commission Vice Chair, EUSA Technical Delegate for Table Tennis Mr Matija Krnc, Assistaint Technical Delegate Ms Irena Purkat and Ms Eszter Gulyas, EUSA Sports Officer. They will make sure that the event will run smoothly and without problems.

The competition hosts 18 men’s teams and 11 women’s teams from as many as 24 universities from 13 countries. These athletes will compete to win over the title of the last champions, University of Nisantasi (TUR) in the men competition and University of Kazan, Russia in the women competition. 

At the Opening Ceremony, the present athletes, participants and officials enjoyed the friendly and pleasent athmosphere, as well as the  dance performance of Balet Art Studio and local folklore group and the march pass of the present athletes, representing their universities. 

After the official opening, the competition started with men’s and women’s teams matches.

The Organising Committee welcomes all teams to this Championship. We wish all best to all participants and hope they enjoy their stay in the beautiful city of Olomouc.
