EUC Rugby 7's 2010 starts

The Opening Ceremony of the IV European Universities Rugby 72 championship took place on Wednesday, July 14th in the evening at the Fontanar Stadium in Cordoba.

The Ceremony was attended by Prof. Mr Jose Manuel Roldan, Rector of the University of Cordoba, Prof. Mr. Manuel Torres Aguilar, chairman of the OC, Alfonso Igualada, Alderman of Finance of the Córdoba Council and President of the Municipal Institute of Sports, and other guests.

 

March pass of the participants

The Opening ceremony started with a march pass of tournament participating countries, followed by the rise of the flag and the playing of the Anthem. A few minutes later, several authorities welcomed the tournament participating teams. The Oath of the Athletes and the Referees finished the ceremony, that ended with a special concert for the competitors and tournament-connected people.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee participants were welcomed by Mr Jose Manuel Roldan, Rector of the University of Cordoba and Chairman of the OC, EUSA EC Delegate, Dinos Pavlou, welcomed all participants and wished all the best for the athletes and officials who came to test their skills and abilities. He also thanked the Organizing Committee for all their contribution.

The competition is organized the by University of Cordoba, with contribution of Cordoba Town Hall, and is taking place between July 14 and 17. EUSA Executive Committee representative Mr Pavlou and Technical Delegate, Bob Reeves will make sure that the event goes smoothly and without problems. The Competition will host 12 different universities, having 8 male and 6 female teams from 6 different countries.

Last year’s titles of European Universities Champion were won by the Kuban State University of Phisycal Education, Sport and Tourism from Russia in male competition, and Exeter University from Great Britain in female competition. Though last year champions weren’t able to come, two from the first three qualified in Bristol last year (male competition) are attending.
