EUC Handball 2011 starts

The Opening ceremony of the 6th European Universities Handball Championship in Rijeka, Croatia, was held after the opening games on Monday, July 18 in Zamet sports hall.

The ceremony began with the march of all the athletes proceded with Croatian national anthem and greeting speeches from Mr Zrinko Custonja, President of Croatian University Sports Federation; Mr Česlovas Garbaliauskas, EUSA EC member; Prof. Dr. Sc. Pero Lučin Rector of Univeristy of Rijeka; Prof. Dr. Sc. Vidoje Vujić, Deputy County Perfect of Primorsko Goranska County, Mr Vojko Obersnel, City of Rijeka Mayor; and Dr. Sc. Radovan Fuchs from the Ministry of Science, education and sports who also opened the championship.

Opening of the event

On behalf of all the student athletes, Slavica Suster gave the Oath of the athletes followed by the Oath of the judges and referees given by Darijo Rupcic. The program continued with performances of dance groups Flame and Rijeka’s first Cheerleader Squad.

Athlete's oath

16 men and 11 women university teams from all over Europe will compete for the title of the champions at the 2011 European Universities Handball Championship in Rijeka, Croatia, which started on July 17 and will conclude on July 24. Apart from the organising committee and the dedicated team of volunteers, EUSA representative Mr Garbaliauskas and EUSA technical delegates Mr Frantisek Taborsky and Mr Pascal Denoyer are making sure the championship is being organised on the highest level.
