EUC Handball 2010 starts

More than 300 students coming from 18 universities and 11 countries attended the opening ceremony which begun today, Monday June 14 at 6 PM. The Opening Ceremony announced the start of the 5th European Universities Handball Championship 2010, held in Nicosia, Cyprus. Participants were warmly welcome by dr Michalis Krashias - Cyprus University Sports Federation and Organizing Committee President and dr Wolf Fruehauf – EUSA Executive Committee Representative.

Prof. Andreas Demetriou – Minister of Education of the Republic of Cyprus officially declared the Championship open. EUSA anthem Gaudeamus Igitur and raising of EUSA flag preceded cultural performances which aroused applause of participants and spectators.

The title of European Universities Champion is defended by University of Vincent Pol from Poland (women’s tournament). Unfortunately, 2009 Men’s Champion, Russian State University of Physical Education, Sport and Tourism could not be present in Nicosia.
