EUC Futsal 2011 Ready
The first ever European Universities Championship organized in the Nordic countries will be held in Tampere, Finland between July 16 and 24, 2011, where both men and women will compete for the championship titles in futsal.
The year of the Championships began with the visit of EUSA’s technical delegate Mr Patrik Perosa when he arrived in Tampere to view the arrangements made for the championships and the people in charge of the organization. Mr Perosa was as a whole very satisfied with the arrangements made for the championships and the stay also gave an opportunity for discussions along with some improvement proposals and tips which will help to continue the organization.
One of the biggest improvement in this year’s futsal event is the possibility to increase the number of maximum teams up to 24 for both men’s and women’s competition. EUC Futsal championships have been one of the most popular EUC event and many willing participating teams have had to be dropped out in previous competitions. If at the time of the General Entry deadline, April 17, EUSA has received complete entry (24+2 extra teams in case of late withdrawals) the maximum number of the participating teams might be increased to 24. In this case, there will also be one extra competition day. In addition, arrival days will then be July 15 and 16 and competition days between July 17 and 24. Otherwise, the tournament will be played with 16 teams. In this case, arrival days will be July 16 and 17 and competition days between July 18 and 24.
Tournament Director Matti Anttonen is inspired on the possibility to increase the number of teams: “It has been a pity in the previous events that all the willing teams could have not fit into the competition just because there have not been enough slots for teams. We are answering for the demand and have prepared all the competition, accommodation and catering venues to fully support the increase of the teams in the championship.”, Anttonen comments.
Moreover, earlier one significant partner for the tournament was gained as organizers made a deal with Adidas Finland considering tournament’s sports equipment and clothing. According to the deal, the home team will use shirts and shorts provided by Adidas. In addition, the international Adidas participates in the tournament by providing all the official tournament balls which will be the novel year 2011 futsal balls.
