EUC Football getting ready
Last weekend, the Organizing Committee of the European Universities Football Championship 2013 (EUC Football 2013) welcomed EUSA football technical delegate, Mr Antonis Petrou, who is also a UEFA member. It was a technical visit, since its main objective was to know first-hand all the organizational development that is being carried out in the University of Almería, as well as the advances in the organization of EUC Football 2013.
Mr Petrou participated, together with the Organization Director, Mr Pablo Martinez, and other members of the Executive Committee, in a technical meeting, where he saw all the organizational details. Especially, he was informed of the sports competition and training facilities, as well as the competition organization according to the registrations received. Attention was also given to the preparations of the Opening Ceremony, the Official Reception and the Closing Ceremony, as well as in the transfers, meals and other details in relation to the athletes.
Afterwards, a visit to the football field of the University of Almería was organised, one of the nerve centre of the championship, and other buildings of the university that will be also used, such as the Auditorium of the University of Almería, where the technical meeting and the Group Draw will be held, and the recently built Paraninfo, one of the possible venues of the Opening Ceremony.
On Saturday, Mr Petrou visited the rest of the planned sports facilities for the competition: Emilio Campra Youth Stadium and Los Angeles Sports Complex that have excellent conditions for the development of this event. He visited also the planned training facility, La Cañada Sports Complex, and El Toyo hotel, where the 600 university athletes from all Europe will stay from 23 to 30 June 2013. This was followed by an official lunch with the President of the Organizing Committee of the European Universities Football Championship, Mr José Antonio Guerrero, other members of the Organizing Committee, and the Rector of the University of Almería Mr Pedro Molina.
Mr Petrou emphasised the good sports facilities of the city, and congratulated the Organizing Committee on the good work it is carrying out. Some suggestions for a successful development of this event were also made, ensuring that the championship will truly be successful.
The organisers are otherwise very active in promoting the event also locally and between various age categories, including the youngest football players.
Apart from local, national and international cooperation, the importance of sponsors and partners in sporting events is also essential. We are happy to report that the European Universities Football Championship is interesting also to big sponsors, like BMW, and also to other institutional and cooperative partners.
