EUC Football 2010 starts

The Opening Ceremony of the 8th European Universities Football Championship took place on July 19 in Warsaw at the courtyard of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music.

The Ceremony was attended by several authorities, including Tomasz Pietrusiński, representative of Masovia Voivodshiop Marshal; Wojciech Kudlik, Tadeusz Rożej & Andrzej Banasiak from Ministry of Sports & Tourism and Zdzisław Brzeziński, the Mayor of Piastów.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee participants were welcomed by prof. Marek Konopczyński, the President of Organizing Committee. EUSA TD Delegate Mr. Antonis Petrou welcomed all participants and wished all the best for the athletes and officials who came to test their skills and abilities. He also thanked the Organizing Committee for all their contribution.

 

Athletes march

The championship, which is taking place from 18 to 25 July 2010 in Warsaw, Poland, is organized by University Sport Association of Poland (AZS) with contribution of Ministry of Sport and Tourism of the Republic of Poland, Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Republic of Poland, Warsaw City Council and Mazovia Voivodship Marshal Office.

EUSA representatives in the championship are Mr Adam Roczek, Sports Manager, and technical delegates Mr. Antonis Petrou and Mr. Andreas Demetriou. In cooperation with the organisers, they will make sure that the event will goes smoothly and without problems. The Competition hosts 12 men’s teams and 7 women’s teams from 11 countries. There are over 300 participants and 40 volunteers which are helping during the Championship.

 

Cultural & entertainment programme at the Opening ceremony

The title of European Universities Champion is defended by Ternopil Pedagogical University from Ukraine in men’s competition. In women’s tournament the current champion is not participating, therefore University of Montpellier from France, last year’s runner-up, is the “defender” in this case.
