EUC Beach Volleyball in Porto concludes

The 9th European Universities Beach Volleyball Championship has successfully concluded on 28th July with an exciting Closing Ceremony in Porto, Portugal. Over 150 participants from 33 Universities from 17 countries took part in this year’s edition of the event. The matches, played in front of full audience, were also broadcast live via webstreaming.


Finals - Women
 

In men’s finals, the title of champion/s went to Damian Wojtasik and Jaroslaw Lech from the University of Lodz (POL), who have won a thrilling final match against Michal Makowski and Sebastian Sobczak, also from the University of Lodz. In women finals, the title of champion/s went to Juliana Rosas and Tânia Oliveira from University of Fernando Pessoa, who has won an exciting final match against Izabela Soja and Aleksandra Filip from The Jerzy Kukuczka Academy of Physical Education in Katowice (POL). 

Men's Finals

 

Medals and awards were presented by president of Organizing Committee Mr Ruben Alves, Pro-rector from University of Porto Mr Manuel Janeira, representative of Polytechnical Institute of Porto Mr António Cardoso, representative of Porto City Hall Mr Hugo Neto, president of Academic University Sports Federation of Portugal (FADU) Mr Bruno Barracosa and member of EUSA Executive Committee Mr Fernando Parente.

Most valuable players’ awards were also recognised. In Female category, the Best attacker award was given to Tânia Oliveira, from University of Fernando Pessoa (POR), the Best Blocker award was given to Patricia Teufl, from University of Linz (AUS) and the Best Server award was given to Juliana Rosas, from University of Fernando Pessoa (POR). In male category, the Best attacker award was given to Michal Makowski, University of Lodz (POL), the Best Blocker award was given to Oddmund Solhaug, from Norwegian School of Sport Sciences Student Sports Club (NOR) and the Best Server award was given to Sebastian Sobczak from University of Lodz (POL). The Awards were presented by Mr Daniel Lacerda, from Portuguese Volleyball Federation, Mrs Daniela Erni Ruoss, EUSA technical delegate, and Mr Adriano Paço, EUSA assistant technical delegate.

EUSA Flag passing

 

After the closing speeches, the EUSA flag was passed to Mr Parente, member of the EUSA Executive Committee. The next EUSA beach volleyball event will be held in 2015 at the 10th European Universities Championship in Larnaca, Cyprus.
