EUC Basketball ends with a bang
The 15th edition of European Universities Basketball Championship has drawn to a close following an exciting day of finals as well as an enjoyable Closing Ceremony in CityZEN sport hall on July 27.
Over 400 participants representing 22 Universities from 14 countries took part in this year’s edition of the event.
In men’s finals, the title of champions went to University of Bologna who won an exhilarating final match against Beykent University. Both teams had met already in the finals of last year’s European Universities Games in Coimbra, with the Italian side making it two from two against their Turkish counterparts.
Vytautas Magnus University dominated the 3rd place match against University of Rouen as they became the 3rd best University basketball team in Europe.
In women’s finals, the University of Strasbourg who won an electrifying final match against University of Vienna who showed a lot of skill and commitment, but were however unable to keep up with a well-organised team from France. University of Pitești finished with the bronze medal, beating Gdańsk University of Technology into third place.
The medals and awards were presented by EUSA President Mr Adam Roczek, Deputy Mayor of Poznań Ms Katarzyna Kierzek-Koperska, Marshall Office representative Mr Marek Kubiak, Secretary General of Polish Basketball Association Ms Olga Kijewska, Vice-President of Polish Basketball Association Mr Eugeniusz Kijewski, EUSA representative Mr Marko Zunic, EUSA Basketball TD Mr Peter George, EUSA Basketball TD assistant Ms Pascale Weiwers, Vice-president of AZS Mr Mariusz Walczak.
