EUC Basketball 2023 is officially open in Averio
The Opening Ceremony of European Universities Basketball Championship took place on Sunday 23 july in Aveiro, Portugal at Cais da Fonte Nova.
Every team arrived to the ceremonial venue by 'moliceiro', the typical local boat.
The Ceremony was attended by Wilson Carmo, President of the Organizing Committee & President of University Aveiro Students Union, Rector of University of Aveiro, Paulo Jorge Ferreira, President of Portuguese University Sports Federation, Mr. Ricardo Nora, EUSA Executive Committee Member, Mr. Zoltán Rakaczki.
On behalf of the Organising Committee participants were welcomed by Wilson Carmo, President of the Organizing Committee & President of University Aveiro Students Union.
EUSA Executive Committee representative Mr. Zoltán Rakaczki. welcomed all participants and wished all the teams and participants who came to test their skills and abilities well ahead of the start of the competition, while also thanking the Organising Committee and the volunteers for all their contributions.
The competition is organised by Portuguese University Sports Federation (FADU) and University of Aveiro, with the contribution of University Aveiro Students Union.
Aveiro already hosted the European Universities Basketball Championship, the 1st ever, in 2001: this 16° edition is the 3rd EUC Basketball hosted by Portugal and FADU.
Championship will take place from July 23 to 30 in Aveiro. The venues for all the matches will be Aristides Hall, Galitos Hall, Esgueira Hall, Illiabum Hall.
EUSA is represented by Mr. Zoltán Rakaczki and the Technical Delegates are Peter George (TD) and Pascale Weiwers, as well as representative from EUSA Staff Mr Salvatore Sisca, EUSA Media Coordinator. They will make sure that the event will run smoothly and without problems.
The Competition will host more than 500 partecipants, including athletes, officials and volunteers, from as many as 20 universities from 12 countries.
The title of European Universities Basketball Champion is defended by University of Bologna in the men tournament, and University of Strasbourg won the last edition of the women tournament.
The atmosphere in Aveiro is electric and the University Campus is ready to accommodate all the delegations, with many services available to the athletes, a fun zone and many events ahead.
Prior to the Opening Ceremony, on 23th of July, the General Technical Meeting took place, hosting the draws for the men and women tournaments.
