EUC Basketball 2015 Opens

The Tito Square in Koper was flooded with young basketball players from all over Europe for the Opening ceremony of the 13th European Universities Basketball Championship on June 21; the event last until Saturday, June 27, 2015.

European Universities Basketball Championship returned to Koper after thirteen years. The main role of host and opening was held by the Rector of the University of Primorska prof. dr. Dragan Marusic, who welcomed the guests and participants.

The welcome speeches were held by Secretary General of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, the President of the Slovenian University Sports Association (SUSA) Mr Milan Zvan and the Vice-Mayor of the Municipality of Koper (MOK) Mr Peter Bolcic.

Guests of honour at the opening ceremony included the President of the Slovenian Olympic Committee Mr Bogdan Gabrovec, Vice-President of the European Fair Play Movement Mr Miroslav Cerar, Basketball National Team Coach Mr Jure Zdovc, and many other distinguished guests.

More than 400 basketball players from 28 university teams from 14 countries will compete for the title of the champions in Basketball.

The group draw was held a day before at the General Technical Meeting. The matches are played at three different venues, and can all be viewed for free. EUSA Technical Delegate Mr Peter George, assisted by Mrs Pascale Weiwers are making sure that the event runs smoothly.

The finals will be played on Saturday, June 27, starting with women's finals at 17.45, followed by the men's finals at 20.00 and concluded with the Closing ceremony.
