The 8th European Universities Basketball Championship was organised this year from July 21-27 in Novi Sad (SRB). The experienced Organising Committee, which has already hosted two EUC in the past, welcomed this year 18 men and 13 women teams from 16 European countries.

In men competition the gold medals went to students from the Vytautas Magnus University (LTU) who won in the finals the University of Belgrade (SRB) with 97:70. he team from Lithuania was a winner also in the previous two years. In the match for the third place the Frederick University (CYP) won the University of Malaga (ESP) 60:57.

In the women competition the University of Gorzow Wlkp (POL) and University of Ljubljana (SLO), who have dominated the EUC Basketball for the last four years, were far away from the finals this year. he Russian State Agricultural University (RUS) and Adam Mickiewicz University of Poznan (POL) played for the gold medals. The team from Russia won 67:57. he Polytechnic University of Madrid (ESP) and the University of Belgrade (SRB) played for the bronze. The girls from Belgrade won 69:65.

The 9th edition of the EUC Basketball will be organised next year in Heraklion (GRE).
