EUC Badminton starts in Uppsala

The Opening Ceremony of the European Universities Badminton Championship took place on May 6 in Uppsala at Fyrishov arena. The Ceremony was attended by Mr Peter Egardt, governor of Uppsala county, Mr Fredrik Ahlstedt, mayor of Uppsala and Mrs Lena Andersson Eklund, pro vice-chancellor Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.

 

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, participants were welcomed by the secretary general of the Swedish University Sports Federation (SAIF), Mr Josef Åhman.

Mr Haris Pavletic's opening address

 

EUSA Executive Committee Delegate Mr Haris Pavletic welcomed all participants and wished all the teams and participants who came to test their skills and abilities great competitions and all the best. He also thanked the Organizing Committee for all their contributions.

 

The competition is organized by the Swedish University Sports Federation and university of Uppsala with contribution of Fyrishov arena, SLU, Fyrisfjädern and Destination Uppsala AB.

Raising of EUSA Flag

 

The Swedish University Sports Federation has a proud past as they have organized several World University Championships in, for example, handball, orientering and floorball. Next year they will host the first WUC in American football. European Universities Badminton Championship is the first EUC in Sweden.

Team events started

 

The Championship will take place from May 6 to May 11 in Uppsala, Sweden. EUSA is represented by Mr Haris Pavletic and the Technical Delegate, Mr Bastian Kruse. They will make sure that the event will run smoothly and without problems. The Competition hosts 132 athletes, 15 teams, 29 universities from 13 countries.
